Bat Survey

As bats often live unseen, alongside us, in our homes and as many owners wish to extend and update their accommodation, this is one of the most common ecology surveys requested by Local Planning Authorities.  All 18 UK species of bat and their roosts are protected by law as bats have suffered from large population declines here since the 1940s. Thus a Bat Survey may be necessary to ensure that any proposed development meets the legislative requirements.  An initial building survey or 'Phase 1 Bat Survey' involves an inspection of accessible internal loft spaces and the external fabric of the building for evidence of bats and potential roosting niches.  A 'Phase 2 Bat Survey', where evening bat emergence or dawn re-entry surveys are undertaken, may or may not be necessary.

Species is an experienced, specialist bat consultancy holding bat survey and development licences from Natural England, the government nature conservation organisation, that allow us to disturb bats.

We work to best practise requirements (Bat Conservation Trust, 2012) and have been granted over 50 bat mitigation licences to assist clients with bat issues on proposed development sites.
